SECTION 5A

FAVORITES: BELGRADE-BROOTEN-ELROSA SAINTS and the PAYNESVILLE AREA BULLDOGS

DARK HORSES: KERKHOVEN-MURDOCK-SUNBURG FIGHTING SAINTS and the CANBY LANCERS

Section 5A will have sixteen state qualifiers returning, including state nine medal winners: Maximus Hanson (state Champ), Ryan Jensen (5th), Carson Gilbert (6th) from Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Adam Devlaeminck (6th) from Minneota, Peyton Hemmesch (3rd) from Paynesville, Trey Gunderson (3rd) from KMS, Eli Greenman (4th) from Canby, Jevon Williams (3rd) from ACGC and Austin Kiecker (2nd) from BOLD. 

BELGRADE-BROOTEN-ELROSA JAGUARS

Head Coach: Jordan Fester

Central Mn. Conference: 5-1

Overall Duals: 20-5

The Jaguars will have eleven section place winners back, including four state qualifiers, three that earned medals. They will have back six with a great deal of experience, they graduated just three last spring, including two state qualifiers, including one state medal winner. The Jaguars defeated ACGC 57-24 in the section quarters, Canby 40-19 in the semifinals and KMS 38-25 for Section 5A honors. The Saints defeated Medford in the state quarters 42-22. They were defeated by Caledonia-Houston 33-27 in the semifinals and they defeated HLWW 32-30. They will have a very experienced line up, so look for the Saints to make a strong challenge to defend this section dual honors. The Saints could be one of the top teams in Class A, if they stay healthy and spread out in their weights.

The Bulldogs will have back six section place winners, including a pair of state qualifiers of which one earned a state medal. The Bulldogs will have back sixteen with experience, so look for this young team if they stay healthy and spread out in their weights to make a strong challenge for possible section dual meet honors. They were defeated by Minneota 32-27 in the section quarters. They did graduate two section place winners, including one state place winner. The Bulldogs should make a strong challenge to their last seasons dual meet marks.

The Lancers will have back six section place winners, including three state qualifiers and one earned a state medal.  They will have nine back with experience, with the graduation of four seniors, three section placers, including pair of state medalists. The Lancers defeated Benson 56-20 in the section quarters and in the semifinals they were defeated by BBE 40-19. They will have back eight with 21 wins plus, so look for the Lancers to challenge for a top four spot in this Section 5A dual meet campaign. They should challenge their dual meet marks from last season.

The Fighting Saints will have eight section place winners, of which two were state qualifiers and one earned a state medal. They will have seven back with experience and a very young team. With the graduation of five last spring, including four section place winners. The Fighting Saints defeated Minnewaska 49-18 in the section quarters and in the semifinals they were defeated by Minneota 31-29. Look for them to make very steady strides of improvement, if they stay healthy and spread out in their weights, they will be a force to be dealt with. They should make a strong challenge for a top four spot in what should be a pretty balanced section dual meet campaign. They should challenge their dual meet marks from last season.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS

The Vikings will have back six section place winners, including a pair of state qualifiers and one state medal winner. The Vikings will have back nine with experience back from their 20-7 dual meet campaign. They did graduate four seniors last spring, including three state qualifiers, one was a state medal winner. The Vikings defeated Paynesville 32-27 in the section quarters and they were defeated by KMS 31-29 in the semifinals. This this  a very young team, look for steady improvement thru out the season, they should challenge those good dual meet numbers from last season. If they stay healthy and stay spread out in their weights look for them to make a challenge for one of those top four spots in what should be a very good section dual meet campaign.

The Falcons will have back seven section place winners, including one state qualifier who did earn a state medal. The Falcons will have back nine with experience, they did graduate one state medal winner. The Falcons were defeated in the section quarters by BBE 57-24. Look for the Falcons make big strides on improvement thru out the season, possibly surprising someone thru the season. The Falcons should make a strong challenge to improve on the 12-16 dual meet marks from last season.
